NDP investment in County Laois includes: Health projects have been advanced with the opening in of the Department of Psychiatry at Midland Regional Hospital at Portlaoise. This new department provides accommodation for up to 50 patients with male and female admission units as well as a dedicated six-bedded unit for Later Life Psychiatry. The unit is part of a major €20 million development of the hospital.

75 km network to go live in five towns across four counties.Dermot Ahern, T.D., Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, today opened the new €12 million broadband network in the Midlands which is expected to go live within four weeks.

Approval has been given to Laois County Council's Preliminary Report for the Laois Towns and Villages Sewerage Scheme. This scheme takes in Abbeyleix, Clonaslee, Durrow, Mountrath, Rathdowney and Stradbally.

Portlaoise Water Supply Improvement Scheme |
The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Martin Cullen T.D., has approved the Preliminary Report for the Portlaoise Water Supply Improvement Scheme and has authorised Laois County Council to go ahead with the preparation of Tender Documents.

NDP Boosts Transport Links in Laois |
Over 90 people are using Laois TRIP every week, a rural transport service, which serves West Laois. Thanks to NDP funding, Laois TRIP provides a flexible, community based transport system to meet the needs of people who do not have access to public or private transport.
