National Development Plan Supporting Further Economic and Social Progress in Co. Laois - December 2008
Over the past year, the National Development Plan continued to deliver significant investment in a range of economic and social projects in Co. Laois. Despite the global financial crisis and the pressure on Ireland's public finances, further investment was made in training and employment programmes, business supports, education, healthcare, social housing and the county's physical infrastructure during 2008.

NDP Delivering in Laois
NDP investment in County Laois includes: Health projects have been advanced with the opening in of the Department of Psychiatry at Midland Regional Hospital at Portlaoise. This new department provides accommodation for up to 50 patients with male and female admission units as well as a dedicated six-bedded unit for Later Life Psychiatry. The unit is part of a major €20 million development of the hospital.
