The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin TD, on 13 December 2007, announced details of a €44.55 million funding award that will create 67 new research posts in Higher Education Institutes, under the Science Foundation Ireland Stokes Professorship and Lectureship Programme. | New N2 Castleblayney Bypass Opened – 5 November 2007 |
The Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey T.D., on 5 November 2007 officially opened the new N2 Clontibret to Castleblayney Bypass in Co. Monaghan. The new bypass, which is 15.9km in length, was delivered on time and within budget. The Bypass was funded under the National Development Plan as part of the Government's Transport 21 investment programme. The road is a realignment of the existing N2 National Primary Route

| 10m Fund for Marine Research Launched - 30 July 2007 |
The Marine Institute launched a €10m call for research proposals under the Marine Research Sub-Programme of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2007-2013 on 30 July 2007. It invites suitably qualified scientists and industry experts to tackle a wide range of issues including; the building of new Irish industries in cod and seaweed farming, an assessment of Ireland's capability to respond to a major pollution incident, and other issues.
