Recent NDP projects in county Westmeath

| Double Road Relief for Navan - 15 May 2009 |
The Minister for Transport, Mr. Noel Dempsey T.D., officially opened the Navan Inner Relief Road Phase 2B on the 15th of May and also announced the opening, significantly ahead of schedule, of a link road to the future M3 motorway. The two new roads which are funded under the National Development Plan will positively change the face of Navan by significantly easing traffic congestion in the busy Northeast town.

| NDP Delivering in Westmeath |
National roads projects under construction in the county include the N4 McNeads Bridge Realignment Scheme, and the M4 Kinnegad Enfield Kilcock Motorway Scheme. Construction has also started on the N52 Mullingar Eastern By-Pass Scheme. The new scheme will extend from Marlinstown, east of Mullingar, to the N52 at Lynn to the south of the town.

75 km network to go live in five towns across four counties.Dermot Ahern, T.D., Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, today opened the new €12 million broadband network in the Midlands which is expected to go live within four weeks.

Glasson/Ballykeeran/Coosan Sewerage Scheme

Westmeath County Council have been given approval to prepare Contract Documents for the Glasson/Ballykeeran/Coosan Sewerage Scheme Phase 1. The scheme, estimated to cost EUR 3.6m, is being funded under Water Services Investment Programme 2004-2006, as part of the Rural Towns and Villages Initiative.

Minister Ahern opens 20m New Housing Developments in Westmeath |
Mr. Noel Ahern T.D., Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal today (5th April) officially opened and launched three new housing developments in County Westmeath. These developments provide a total of 130 units of social and affordable units of accommodation at Blackberry Lane, Athlone: Kilmurray's Corner, Ballynacargy and 'Raithlin', Ashe Road, Mullingar.

Tanaiste Launches EQUAL Development Partnership

Mary Harney, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment today launched the Westmeath EQUAL Development Partnership. Speaking at the launch in Mullingar the Tánaiste said "The aims of the EQUAL Initiative go to the very heart of our National Employment Strategy in terms of its focus on mobilising all sources and potential sources of labour supply and combating social exclusion, poverty and inequality. With the EQUAL Initiative, we want to make it easier to open doors to employment and a chance to become employable".

| EUR 19,500 NDP funds for Westmeath NeighbourWood Project |
EUR 19,500 has been allocated to Westmeath County Council for a NeighbourWood project in Belvedere. The NeighbourWood Scheme is funded by the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources under the National Development Plan 2000-2006 and supported by the European Union.

Housing Allocations for the Elderly |
The Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, Mr. Robert Molloy, T.D., today (21 February) announced that the Task Force on Special Housing Aid for the Elderly, under the aegis of the Department of the Environment and Local Government, is allocating grants totalling £8.658m to Health Boards for the carrying out of essential repairs to houses occupied by elderly persons living on their own.
