Cullen Announces Funding of €1.14m for Architectural Conservation Projects

Mr Martin Cullen T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government today (25 May, 2004) announced details of grants totalling €1.14m under the 2004 Urban and Village renewal scheme of EU co-financed grants for conservation. Under this particular scheme grants are provided for projects at buildings which are in public ownership or open to the public generally which are considered to be of considerable architectural merit. Buildings in use for public administration or which are in private ownership are not covered by this scheme.
The Minister said these grants are further evidence of this Governments commitment to preserving our countrys rich architectural heritage. They complement the scheme administered by local authorities and funded by my Department at a cost of €3.9 million in 2004 which assists in the conservation of protected structures which are in private ownership
All of the grants under this scheme will have to be matched from the project promoter by a minimum 10% contribution in the Border, Midlands and Western Region and 15% contribution in the Southern & Eastern Region.
